Held on the first-ever International Tai Chi Day, the event brought together more than 1,200 participants from 15 countries and regions, including China, the United States, Russia, and Kazakhstan, with many professional teams and top university squads in attendance.
This marks the team’s third major competition this year, following the 12th Jiaozuo International Tai Chi Competition and the First Jiangsu University Wushu Championship. Through each event, the team has continued to build experience and sharpen its competitive edge.
Team Performance
Xie Yicen, who competed in last year’s Handan International Tai Chi Competition, reflected on the team’s development. “Last year we competed together in Handan, and this year we’ve gone through three major competitions: Jiaozuo, Jiangsu, and now Wuyishan. Through these experiences, the entire team has elevated to a new level. From discussing techniques during preparation to encouraging each other at the venue, we are becoming more like one cohesive unit. For me personally, this team atmosphere gives me a stronger sense of belonging and greater motivation to keep improving.”

Liu Yaxuan, competing internationally for the first time, earned the highest score among the DKU team. Facing a stronger field, she gained a deeper appreciation for the value of daily practice and steady improvement. Meeting leading Tai Chi figures during the event also helped her see Tai Chi as both a discipline and a living cultural tradition.
For first-year student Wang Youzhu, her first international Tai Chi competition was a valuable challenge. Although nervous before competing in a higher-level division, she turned pressure into motivation with support from her coach and teammates, and completed her routine with confidence.

From Handan to Jiaozuo, from the Jiangsu provincial championship to Wuyishan, this young team has continued to grow through every competition it enters. For DKU’s Tai Chi team, results matter, but what matters even more is the broader journey: gaining perspective on high-level stages, building trust through training and teamwork, and learning persistence through repeated challenges.
With each step forward, the team is not only refining its craft, but also representing the spirit of Duke Kunshan University with confidence and dedication.
