DKU Athletics adds exciting new PE courses to the curriculum

Skiing, Snowboarding, Sailing, Scuba, and Surfing are now officially PE classes at DKU!

The addition of these classes follows a successful pilot program during which 20 DKU students attended a week-long ski and snowboard camp at Songhua Lake in December of 2021. Students eligible for registration in these classes, will earn 1 PE credit and in case of scuba and sailing, an internationally recognized certifications, PADI and ASA respectively.

Considering these courses will be offered in various locations in China, classes will be held during the week following final exams in December and May, and relative to the Covid restrictions at that time. Considering sailing course will be held in Tai Lake, Suzhou, this course may be offered at several periods throughout the academic year. Specific information about the courses such as dates, location, cost, and registration, will be announced at least 2 months prior to the start date.

Although each class will have an associated cost to registered students, the course costs will be subsidized at a significant discount. All interested students must meet the eligibility criteria considered a pre-requisite to ensure a successful completion of the course:

  1. Score at least 80 points on the National Student Physical Health Standard Test
  2. Have already earned 2 PE credits
