Physical Education

Physical education and National Students Physical Health Standards are the two mandatory graduation requirements for students from mainland China and HMT. The primary aim of our program is to provide students with an opportunity to meet these requirements, while exploring various activities in order to build a healthy and lifelong relationship with exercise. Classes are offered in either 7- or 14-week sessions, earning students 0.5 or 1 credits respectively. Students from mainland China and HMT must take equivalent of four (4) PE credits to fulfill their graduation requirement in their 1st and 2nd year.

Considering physical education classes are a key component of our promotion of health and wellness, demonstrate our commitment to equal opportunity to all students, and given the nature of our integrative academic program,

  1. All our international students can also register for PE classes and receive academic credits.
  2. Students can take PE classes at any time during their 4 years.
  3. DKU students who take PE while attending Duke, may also transfer credits to DKU.

National Physical Health Test

The National Student Physical Health Standard Test (NPHST) is an annual assessment of students’ physical health and development, and part of the Ministry of Education implementation of the National Standards for Physical Exercise in schools. It is established to promote and encourage active participation in physical exercise. As a National Standard, it is also a mandatory graduation requirement for students from mainland China and HMT. In the spirit of our mission to promote and build the culture of health and wellness in DKU community, we encourage our international students, faculty, and staff, to also join and participate in the National Health Standard Test!

More information about the tests, graduation requirements, scoring, and the exemption form, can be found in the NPHST Handbook
