Meet DKU Moves Winners

Our first interviewer is Paul Stanley, he has many titles in DKU: Physics faculty, Associate Dean for UG Studies, and trumpet player in the orchestra. Now, he got a new tag: one of the top three participants in DKU Moves. For Paul, at first, the idea of making cyber travel appealed to him and he thought it was very romantic. But now, the meaning of DKU Moves for him is more than romantic travel. DKU Moves has motivated him to exercise harder and more efficiently “I am riding faster, longer, and harder than I used to, because I want to record more burned calories per week, and there is only so much free time I have for the purpose.” For the feeling of getting this prize, he said, “Surprised! I expected to be trailing the pack, not leading it. I am like three times the age of the average student, which makes me 1/3 as fast.” We can feel his energy from his words and looking forward to his further participation!

Jay Shen, a staff in the China Enrollment Management Office, has been the leading member ever since the start of DKU Moves. He shared with us his feeling about DKU Moves – “Personally the best part is a sense of community. We are all DKUers because of work or study, but DKU Moves creates a different bonding opportunity for us outside work and study”. We are happy to hear that DKU Moves has brought DKU community more closely together, created a new way for all the members to stay connected.

Qi Wei, a staff from Student Affairs won second place in our mid-session awards. For her, DKU Moves is a great way to record her exercises. Moreover, it has been one of her biggest motivations to keep on working out and encouraged her to do more exercise than before. As a badminton enthusiast, she claimed that “Usually, I play badminton twice a week. Since I participated in DKU Moves, I do sports at least 4 times a week.”. To explain her passion for badminton, she added that “Badminton is a beginner-friendly sport, so it is easy for everybody to participate in. I enjoyed playing badminton with different people.” We hope her passion can influence more people to join badminton and keep moving.

Chen Lyu is a senior student majoring in Materials Science/ Physics, who ranks 1st in the student body so far in DKU Moves. His favourite activities are cycling, weight training and badminton. The best part of DKU Moves for him is the data visualization. “Under the facade of the idea of traveling from Kunshan to other cities, for example Wuhan, the best part is that it visualizes the process of your training. Meanwhile for the reason that i like to ride bicycle and have had serveral experience of riding 100-200km/day, i can understand what it means to go from Kunshan to Wuhan, which is not a short journey.” Chen is not far away from Wuhan now, we are curious to see how far he can reach after this semester. Carry on!
