On November 3rd 2022, top performers in DKU Fitness Day were invited to an awarding ceremony, co-hosted by Department of Athletics, Residence Life Office and DKU Trade Union. It is the first year for DKU Athletics to turn National Student Physical Health Standard Test (NPHST) into DKU Fitness Day. Apart from Chinese UG students, who are required to take the NPHST test, International students, graduate students, staff and faculty were all welcomed to join the event and compete for different prizes.

Consisting of staff members from three different offices sitting in the northwest corner of IB building. Team 西北望 won the group champion in staff & faculty group. Fei Xu, from career service office, is one of the top performing team members. In fact, Fei is very familiar with the Fitness Day yet because this is her second time joining the NPHST, and this is also her second year bringing her daughter along. As a person who enjoys exercise, Fei hopes that Fitness Day can be an interesting opportunity to expose her daughter to the happiness of exercise.

Pull-up test is hands-down the toughest test among all NPHST tests. However, this year, sophomore student Jiayang Hong amazed all his peers after finishing 26 continuous perfect pull-ups. Not only did he win the individual champion in pull-ups, he is also the all-around champion in sophomore group with an overall score of 96. To explain his excellent performance in tests, he explained that he worked out regularly throughout the whole passed academic year and weight training has already been a part of his lifestyle to enrich his university life and release pressure. The prize is a good news for him but not a surprise. He is confident about his condition due to his effort in the gym, and Fitness Day offers a great opportunity to quantify his training result.

Another participant that caught a lot of attention during the Fitness Day was Yuedong Quan, a staff member from Data Science Research Center. “He came to the event on his own, humbly and even a bit shy.” Described by a staff member at the event check-in station. ” However, once he got onto the field, he became the beast that aced every test!” With an overall score of 92.2, Yuedong undoubtedly wins the individual champion in staff & faculty group. As a new member in DKU, Yuedong said that Fitness Day is an unforgettable experience for him to build up connection with his teammates and also reach out to more colleagues from other departments.

On the track, Hongkai Zhu stands out as the fastest sprinter. He is also the all-around Champion in junior group. As a basketball varsity player, his testing score can be a reflection of his hard work during weekly varsity training. Hongkai expressed that it’s not surprising for him to gain such a result after training day after day. Moreover, he added that he is always a big fan of Athletics department’s activities and in fact, he has been titled the “outdoor adventurer” in DKU Moves for his active engagement in outdoor activities with Athletics.
