Students join ski camp at Songhua Lake

Duke Kunshan students hit the slopes at a Songhua Lake Resort in northeast China over the winter break for a five-day skiing and snowboarding course.

Twenty undergraduates made the trip to Jilin city as part of a pilot winter camp organized by DKU Athletics and Campus Engagement. After 4 days of professional instruction, students completed a comprehensive, final exam and received a ski/snowboard certificate equivalent to their proficiency level.

Of course, not all was serious practice and exams! The last day was reserved for DKU students to put their newfound skills to test, and enjoy free riding any of the 37 Songhua Lake trails, 5 of which are certified by the International Snow Federation, and the longest primary snow track in China of 5.21 km.

Given the success of this program, there are plans to introduce additional summer and winter PE courses. These programs aim to provide DKU students with a diverse range of sport skills they can use to stay active throughout the year, and continue building a lifelong affinity to a healthy and active lifestyle.
