DKU Intramurals | Sports Complex hosts its first competitions

Duke Kunshan’s brand-new Sports Complex hosted a series of intramurals – competitions open to the university’s students, faculty, and staff – in session one this fall, attracting over 70 participants in two sports.

In the table tennis intramural, defending champion Shijie Wu, an undergraduate in the Class of 2026, claimed the women’s singles crown. She also won the mixed doubles with playing partner Xueting Li.

Nicolas Voeltzel, visiting assistant professor of philosophy, marked an impressive debut in the competition by winning the men’s singles tournament.

The volleyball competition, which ran over three weeks, saw five teams from the DKU Volleyball Club, an all-staff team, and another non-club team battle it out in a round-robin. Team SYD finished champions after beating The Hot Potatoes 3-0 in the final match. Surprise package Hectic Houzis claimed third spot after a narrow 3-2 result against That’s What She Set.

“These intramurals served as a friendly competition for our members and the wider DKU community, strengthening the bond between teammates and creating new friendships,” said Annie Tong, president of the DKU Volleyball Club.

“It also served as additional practice for club members ahead of our upcoming matches against the University of Nottingham Ningbo China and New York University Shanghai.
