DKU Open Day for WHU Alumni Honoring 132nd WHU Founders’ Day Men’s Football & Martial Arts Showdown Successfully Held!
To celebrate the 132nd anniversary of Wuhan University and to promote sports and cultural exchange between the two institutions, Wuhan University (WHU) and Duke Kunshan University (DKU) jointly organized a friendly football match and a martial arts showcase event on November 30.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Xiaoshu Li, Assistant to the DKU President. Speeches were delivered by Chancellor of DKU, Dr. Liu Yaolin, Executive Vice Chancellor Prof. John Quelch and Prof. Zhao Yiming, Director of Wuhan University Suzhou Research Institute and Director of Shanghai Liaison Office.
After the opening speech, a gift exchange ceremony took place between representatives of both universities. Representatives from the WHU Jiangsu Alumni Association and DKU faculty member Prof. Cui Jingbo also addressed the gathering. This was followed by a martial arts showcase featuring DKU’s Tai Chi performance and WHU’s Flag Dance and Dragon Dance. Football teams then entered the field for warm-ups, and after the national anthem was played, the friendly match officially began with a ceremonial kick-off by leaders from both institutions. After a spirited match, WHU defeated DKU with a final score of 2–1.

The event concluded successfully in a warm and friendly atmosphere, where the harmonious blend of martial arts elegance and football passion vividly demonstrated the vibrant spirit of students from both universities. The audience responded with enthusiastic applause, appreciating both the exquisite martial arts performances and the thrilling moments on the football field. Through this deep integration of sports and cultural exchange, faculty and students from both institutions not only shared skills but also built genuine friendships.
