Step back in time and master the art of swordsmanship with the DKU Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) Club. Our mission is not simply to practice martial arts but to uncover and preserve the traditions of medieval and Renaissance European sword fighting techniques. Drawing from the depth of ancient manuscripts and archaeological discoveries, we train in the art and strategy of the German Longsword, guided by an expert coach from Suzhou. We are not just practitioners of this storied art form; we are competitors on the national stage, participating in events like the CHMA tournament in China.
To provide a professional yet secure environment for our disciplines, we equip our members with professionally crafted simulation weapons such as the Feder and necessary safety gear.
Structure
HEMA Club
The heart of our club lies in the dedicated training sessions that focus on the German Longsword. Our members gather to share knowledge, practice their craft, and refine their technique, all while prioritizing safety with the appropriate equipment.
Performance/Competition Team
Showcasing our art in the competitive arena and campus-wide performances is a major faction of our club’s activities. This team is for dedicated members who yearn to test and sharpen their skills in the heat of battle, culminating in our annual participation in the national HEMA tournament held in Shanghai every October. The competition team is a testament to the club’s commitment to excellence and the warrior spirit of HEMA.
