DKU’s Climbing Club was established in fall of 2024, and has made the most of its time since. By hosting XJTLU for a climbing night, holding women’s climbing nights, and having workshops for students to learn more about belaying and climbing techniques, the club provides a safe and inclusive atmosphere for new climbers to learn about a new sports, and a place for more experienced climbers to challenge themselves. The club is so excited to continue to grow in number and skill.
Structure
Club
The club provides three weekly trainings for all club members, and additional event during the month to foster community building, and may look to establish a climbing team as the club grows and develops.
Staff and Technical Squad
With 20 trained staff members and 6 members on its Technical Squad, the climbing club has been training to provide a number of services to the climbing community. All staff have been belay certified, and the Technical Squad members have been certified to leave belay workshops. The Technical Squad is also training to be able to set the wall routes and conduct cleanings and safety checks on the auto-belay systems and anchor systems.
Sporting Associations and Connections
The club actively collaborates with a Suzhou climbing gym that provides the Technical Squad with workshops and supoprt to the students. The climbing club hopes to continue to collaborate with universities in the region, such as Xi’An Jiaotong Liverpool University. The club members have also visited a number of gyms in Shanghai to train their skills.
